SRINAGAR: A four-member delegation of legislators from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference met Manoj Sinha in Srinagar on Sunday and urged him to withdraw cases registered against youths arrested during recent protests in the Kashmir Valley.
The delegation included MLAs Tanvir Sadiq, Ali Mohammad Dar, Javaid Riyaz Bedar and Hilal Akbar Lone.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sadiq said the delegation raised concerns over the arrest of several youths and the registration of FIRs against them following protests that erupted in parts of the valley.
He said spontaneous protests took place in different areas, including Chadoora, Pattan, Budgam, Sonawari and Zadibal, after reports of the killing of Ali Khamenei, leading to the registration of multiple cases at various police stations.
According to Sadiq, many youths took to the streets to express their grief and anger, which resulted in police action and FIRs being lodged against them.
“We met the Lieutenant Governor and requested that these FIRs be withdrawn as the youths were only expressing their emotions and grief,” he said.
The NC leader said the delegation was thankful to the Lieutenant Governor for patiently hearing their concerns and reviewing the issue.
“He assured us that the cases of the youngsters who are currently in jail or have FIRs registered against them will be examined and appropriate action will be taken,” Sadiq added.
