KATHUA: A Capacity Building for Entrepreneurship Mela under Mission YUVA was today organised by the District Employment & Counselling Centre (DECC) Kathua at Government Polytechnic College, Kathua.
The object of the Mela was to promote skill development and entrepreneurship among the youth of the district.
Additional District Development Commissioner Kathua (ADDC), Kathua Surinder Mohan Sharma inaugurated the event as chief guest, in presence of Deputy Director Employment, Harvinder Singh and Assistant Director Employment, Piyusha Khajuria.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a welcome address by the Assistant Director Employment. The Principal of Government Polytechnic College and the ADDC also addressed the students and briefed them about the benefits of the Mission YUVA app and associated schemes.
While speaking on the occasion, the ADDC said that in today’s dynamic economic landscape, entrepreneurship is not just an option but a necessity. He emphasised that Mission YUVA aims to equip the youth with information on skill training, loan assistance, and job opportunities to help them become job creators instead of job seekers.
More than 175 students from Government Degree College, Government Polytechnic College and ITI Kathua participated in the event. Faculty members and resource persons from respective institutions conducted training sessions, while YUVA Doots were also present to facilitate the awareness activities.
The ADDC also inspected handmade crafts, food products and garments displayed by Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the UMEED scheme, along with skill demonstration stalls set up by ITI students. He interacted with the exhibitors and encouraged youth to embrace self-employment as a viable career option.
Dignitaries present included Superintendent ITI Kathua, District Nodal Officer JKEDI, and Functional Manager, DIC Kathua, among others.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where best-performing students were awarded mementos. T-shirts were also distributed among participants.
Assistant Director Employment proposed the formal vote of thanks to the chief guest, dignitaries and resource persons.
