KHOUR: To build civic awareness and ensure effective implementation of updated environmental guidelines, the Municipal Committee Khour organized an insightful capacity-building and awareness programme on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 at Government Higher Secondary School.
The event brought together staff, teachers and students, drawing a total of 39 participants dedicated to learning about the new statutory frameworks.
The session focused on educating participants about the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, which came into effect on April 1, 2026, replacing the former 2016 regulations. Discussions centered on the core principles of source segregation, scientific waste processing, driving a circular economy and building a culture of responsible waste management.
Detailed technical guidance was provided on segregating waste at the source into four distinct streams: wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste. Experts outlined best practices for handling, recycling, home composting and safe disposal while stressing the importance of door-to-door collection, avoiding littering and relying solely on authorized waste collectors.
Recognizing the key role of educational institutions, the programme emphasized the capacity of students to act as Swachhata Ambassadors, urging them to take the core message of “Segregate at Source – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” back into their households and broader neighborhoods. The interactive session allowed attendees to address everyday waste management challenges and brainstorm community-led solutions.
The initiative concluded with a joint pledge from all participants to uphold the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and actively contribute toward making Khour a cleaner, greener town.
