JAMMU: The young scion of the Dogra royal family, Rajkumar Martand Singh, is set to lead a new program — the Amar Singh Sports & Youth Initiative — under the aegis of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust. The initiative was announced following approval from Dr. Karan Singh, Executor Trustee of the Trust, as per a press release issued today.
Dedicated to promoting sports, nurturing youth talent, and fostering skill development across Jammu & Kashmir, the initiative aims to provide young people with opportunities to excel and represent the Union Territory at national and international platforms. It is named in honour of Raja Amar Singh (1864–1909), the legendary Dogra figure known for his legacy of public service and institution-building.
Martand Singh, Trustee of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust and a University of St. Andrews alumnus, will serve as the Director of the new initiative. A practicing advocate, he has been actively involved in heritage conservation, cultural outreach, and traditional religious duties at Amar Mahal Museum, Jammu.
“Through the launch of the Amar Singh Sports & Youth Initiative, we hope to provide a meaningful platform for the youth of J&K to discover their potential and thrive through sports and skill development,” said Martand Singh. “This initiative reinforces the Trust’s broader mission of socio-cultural upliftment, education, and charitable development.”
He highlighted that the Hari Tara Charitable Trust, founded in 1970 by Dr. Karan Singh, was established to promote welfare and cultural activities centered around the Amar Mahal Museum, set up in 1975. “We now seek to expand the Trust’s scope to engage younger generations by promoting sports and skills development,” he added.
To guide its vision, the initiative will soon establish an Advisory Committee comprising experts, community leaders, and stakeholders. The Trust has also invited collaborations from organizations and individuals who share its goal of empowering youth and fostering a vibrant sporting culture in the region.
