KATRA: Continuing its crackdown against drug trafficking, District Police Reasi apprehended a suspected drug peddler during a special naka checking at Pamote Nalla in Katra.
A police team from Police Station Katra laid a special checkpoint at Pamote Nalla. During routine inspection, a scooty (Registration No. JK20/7635) travelling from Kakryal towards Katra was stopped for checking.
The rider identified himself as Rakesh Kumar, son of Prem Chand, a resident of Dub Pouni in Reasi district. Upon personal search, police recovered approximately 22 grams of heroin, commonly known as “chitta,” from his possession.
Following the recovery, a case FIR No. 64/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra. Further investigation has been initiated to trace the backward and forward linkages of the narcotics network.
The operation was conducted by SHO Police Station Katra, Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey (JKPS) and SP Katra Sh. Vipan Chandran (JKPS).
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh (JKPS) reaffirmed the district police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug peddling in their areas.
