JAMMU: On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday unveiled a 108-foot high-mast National Flag at Kachrial in the Akhnoor sector, paying rich tributes to the martyrs, soldiers and officers who displayed exceptional valour and sacrifice during the 1971 war.
The Lieutenant Governor also felicitated war veterans and Veer Naris, saluting their courage and lifelong contribution to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, the LG said the land of Kachrial holds immense historical and emotional significance for the nation. “This land is sacred as every inch of it remembers the brave soldiers who laid down their lives while safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the country during the 1965 and 1971 wars,” he said.
He congratulated the General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps (16 Corps), Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra, for the thoughtful initiative of installing the 108-foot high-mast National Flag, and also appreciated the Flag Foundation of India for its role in the historic effort.
“May our beloved and victorious Tricolour fly high across the world. Our Tricolour is a symbol of our freedom, self-respect, sacrifices and martyrdom. Together, we must march forward to realise the lofty vision of making India a developed nation,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The ceremony was attended by Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science and Technology, IT, ARI and Trainings Satish Sharma; General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma; GOC White Knight Corps Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra; GOC 10 RAPID Major General H.S. Brar; Commander Pallanwala Brigade Brigadier Dayanand Sharma; Chief Executive Officer, Flag Foundation of India, Major General (Retd) Ashim Kohli; senior officials, war veterans, Veer Naris and students.
