JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said the new generation “embodies possibility itself” and termed youth as the solution to every challenge, provided they are given the right opportunities, strong platforms and true mentorship.
The Lieutenant Governor was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 2nd edition of the Sikh Cricket Premier League (SCPL) held at the Cricket Ground, University of Jammu.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha said the Sikh Cricket Premier League is shaping multifaceted character among young players and will instill discipline, leadership, teamwork, patience and self-belief in the coming generations. He praised the initiative of the All J&K Sikh Coordination Committee and the Hari Singh Nalwa Cricket Club, calling it a declaration that the youth move forward not as mere spectators but as torchbearers of brotherhood and social harmony.
Highlighting inclusivity, he noted that the organisers have ensured participation of youth from other communities in every team, fostering unity and shared purpose.
“The new generation embodies possibility itself. I believe our youth are the solution to every challenge. Provide them apt opportunities, robust platforms, and true mentorship, and they will author history,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Encouraging players to train with discipline and compete with unbreakable unity on and off the field, Sinha emphasised that the real strength of society lies not in infrastructure but in fresh ideas and innovation. He likened the energy of youth to a river that, when guided with purpose, becomes a powerful force for life and progress.
He further stated that sporting events like the Sikh Cricket Premier League must inspire youth to see sports not merely as a pastime but as a forge for enduring life values. “When youth align with purposeful missions, they understand that grand transformations demand grand visions. Entrepreneurship and sports harbour that very alchemy,” he added.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the transformation of the sports ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that substantial financial support under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme (PMDP) has laid a strong foundation for sports excellence in the Union Territory.
Referring to the recent visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu & Kashmir, Sinha said an assistance of ₹200 crore has been assured for sports development in the UT, with support from national and international sports bodies.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by S. Ajit Singh, Chairman of the All J&K Sikh Coordination Committee, heads of various Sikh organisations, prominent citizens, players, coaches and a large number of youth. Vikram Randhawa, MLA Bahu; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Jammu; Shakti Pathak, Director Anti-Corruption Bureau, and other senior officials were also present.
