JAMMU: As part of its ongoing Water Conservation Campaign, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has ramped up efforts to restore traditional water bodies and rejuvenate natural water sources across various wards of the city.
In a key push toward enhancing urban water sustainability, JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav on Wednesday inspected restoration work at water bodies in Ward No. 55 (Deeli) and Ward No. 68 (Ratnu Chak).
During the visit, Dr. Yadav emphasized the critical importance of conserving age-old water sources and protecting them from encroachment and deterioration. He noted that JMC has rolled out a comprehensive plan aimed at redeveloping, restoring and securing these water bodies to ensure their long-term functionality and community benefit.
The Commissioner added that rejuvenating traditional water structures and improving water supply arrangements will not only preserve heritage sites but also significantly enhance groundwater recharge in surrounding areas.
Underscoring JMC’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable urban growth, Dr. Yadav called on local residents and civic agencies to actively participate in safeguarding natural water resources.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Joint Commissioner (Works) Firdous Ahmed Qazi, Health Officer Dr. Vinod Sharma, Executive Engineer Division 5 Yasir Bashir Kichloo, and other senior officers and field staff of the JMC.
