JAMMU: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner Devansh Yadav on Wednesday conducted an extensive inspection of Jewel Chowk, Bakshi Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Vivekananda Chowk and adjoining areas to review Fire No Objection Certificate (Fire NOC) compliance among commercial establishments and promote adherence to fire safety regulations.
During the visit, the Commissioner interacted with the management of private hospitals, hotels, restaurants, clothing malls and other commercial establishments, stressing the importance of complying with statutory fire safety norms to enhance public safety.
He said the primary objective of the exercise is to strengthen fire safety standards and build a robust culture of fire prevention across the city. He assured the business community that JMC is committed to facilitating the compliance process in a transparent, cooperative and citizen-friendly manner.
To enable establishments to fulfil the required fire safety measures, JMC has granted a period of 30 to 45 days for obtaining the mandatory Fire NOC.
The Commissioner clarified that no coercive action will be taken against establishments that apply for a Fire NOC and actively undertake the prescribed compliance measures within the stipulated period.
He also said that JMC will work in coordination with the Chamber of Commerce, hotel associations and other trade bodies to achieve 100 per cent compliance with fire safety norms, with the aim of protecting lives and property while creating a safer urban environment.
Expressing confidence in the cooperation of the business community, the Commissioner said that active participation by all stakeholders would eliminate the need for enforcement action. He added that the initiative is aimed not only at ensuring legal compliance but also at safeguarding commercial establishments against fire hazards and making Jammu safer for residents, visitors and businesses.
