SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Jammu and Kashmir will result in the announcement of an adequate relief package for people affected by the recent large-scale damages across the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, the CM said the devastation caused by natural calamities has been immense, impacting lives, infrastructure, agriculture, and tourism.
“The loss has been immense—loss of lives, especially during the two yatras in Kishtwar and Katra. There has also been a huge loss of property. Around 330 bridges have been washed away, more than 1,500 km of roads destroyed, many government buildings damaged, and crops including dry fruits have been ruined,” Omar said.
He further added that the state government has already assessed the damages and the matter will be raised with the Prime Minister during his visit.
“Seeing this, we hope that our loss is analysed properly and an adequate package is announced so that we can compensate for the losses suffered,” he said.
The CM said he would personally place all these points before PM Modi, expressing hope that the Centre would extend a substantial relief package to help the people of Jammu and Kashmir rebuild their lives.
