NEW DELHI: Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Friday visited the Sri Pejawar Mutt, a unit of Udupi Math, at Vasant Kunj in New Delhi and met Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji, the 33rd Peethadhipati of Sri Pejawar Adhokshaja Math, Udupi.
The Governor was warmly received at the Mutt with the chanting of Vedic mantras by students of the Gurukul run by the institution. During the meeting, Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji briefed Gupta on the Mutt’s activities in education, spirituality, social service and community welfare.
The Swamiji also apprised the Governor of the Gurukul at Vasant Kunj, where students receive traditional Indian and value-based scriptural education in a holistic environment.
Gupta appreciated the role of Mutts and spiritual institutions in promoting social harmony, universal brotherhood and the timeless teachings of India’s philosopher-saints. He said such institutions have remained important centres for preserving the country’s spiritual and cultural traditions while fostering a spirit of service and social responsibility.
Appreciating the Mutt’s efforts to preserve traditional knowledge systems, the Governor said the Gurukul tradition represented an important dimension of India’s indigenous educational heritage, integrating learning with discipline, character building, spirituality, service and respect for society.
Gupta said the teachings of India’s saints and philosophers have consistently emphasised harmony, compassion, service and universal brotherhood, adding that Mutts and spiritual institutions have played a vital role in transmitting these values across generations.
He also stressed the need to make younger generations aware of India’s rich cultural heritage and traditional wisdom, particularly amid rapid technological and social changes.
The Governor sought the blessings of Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji for the people of Himachal Pradesh and expressed appreciation for the Mutt’s continued efforts towards social welfare and preservation of India’s spiritual and cultural traditions.
Kapil Khanna, President, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Delhi and International President, World Brotherhood Organisation, and Ashutosh Joshi, National Convener of the Indian Youth Parliament, were also present.
