JAMMU: Heritage School organised a workshop on “Teaching Through Low-Cost Teaching Aids” for Science and Mathematics teachers of Classes I to VIII on Tuesday. The workshop aimed to equip educators with innovative and cost-effective strategies to make classroom learning more engaging, activity-based and experiential.
The session was conducted by Prof. Mineesh Gulati, a renowned teacher trainer, STEM and Artificial Intelligence educator, and Physics education specialist with over 33 years of experience in teacher professional development. Prof. Gulati, who serves as the Coordinator of Happy IAPT Anveshika – Experiential Science Center, has trained more than 1,500 teachers and conducted workshops for over 9,000 students.
During the workshop, Prof. Gulati demonstrated a range of low-cost teaching aids created using easily available materials to simplify complex Science and Mathematics concepts. Through practical demonstrations, he showcased innovative methods to explain topics including Newton’s Laws of Motion, inertia, direct and inverse proportion, Pythagoras Theorem, mathematical identities, the Periodic Table through rhymes, the seven colours of light, and force acting at a distance.
Emphasising the importance of creativity in teaching, Prof. Gulati highlighted that effective classroom learning does not always require expensive equipment but depends on the meaningful use of locally available resources and innovative teaching approaches.
Teachers actively participated in hands-on activities, shared ideas and explored ways to incorporate these teaching aids into their classrooms. The interactive session encouraged collaboration, reflection and learner-centred teaching practices among participants.
As a gesture of appreciation, Heritage School presented a sapling to Prof. Gulati, symbolising respect, sustainability and the shared commitment towards nurturing education and the environment.
The workshop concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, leaving teachers inspired and better prepared to make classroom teaching more interactive, enjoyable and effective.
