GURUGRAM: Breaking her silence over the road incident on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road, the woman biker identified as Sia has strongly rejected the claims made by the accused driver, alleging that he deliberately chased and knocked down her two-wheeler and was now attempting to seek public sympathy.
In a video statement posted on Instagram, Sia played an audio clip from a televised interview of the accused, in which he claimed that she was repeatedly accelerating and slowing down and “pinching” vehicles, while maintaining that he did not know a woman was riding the bike.
Questioning the driver’s version, Sia said that even if he believed she was changing speed, there was no justification for following her across the road. She also rejected his claim that he was unaware of her gender, saying her long hair tied in a braid was clearly visible and alleging that the driver had gestured to her and asked her to stop.
Referring to footage of the collision captured on camera, Sia alleged that the videos clearly showed the car moving from the first lane to the third lane before hitting her and fleeing the spot. She said she was dragged across the vehicle and thrown onto the road, describing the incident as a clear case of hit-and-run.
She also questioned the accused’s expressions of remorse during media interviews, asking why he allegedly fled instead of stopping to check on her condition after the collision. Sia said the consequences could have been far more serious and alleged that neither the driver nor those accompanying him stopped to ascertain whether she was alive or seriously injured.
Expressing concern over the safety of women on roads across the Delhi-NCR region, Sia urged the public to hold reckless drivers accountable and called for greater responsibility and caution behind the wheel.
Gurugram Police had earlier taken suo motu cognisance of the incident after a video of the confrontation circulated on social media. An FIR was subsequently registered at Sector-56 Police Station after the police’s Social Media Monitoring Cell flagged the footage on September 14. Police had said no written complaint had been received from the victim at the time and that action was initiated on the basis of the viral video.
