JAMMU: An expert team from Demonstration cum Training Centre (DCTC) Jammu Apiaries (Apis mellifera & DBBS) visited Gouri Kund Village in Sudhmahadev (Chenani) to inspect Apiary units recently migrated there.
Under the guidance and directions of Director Agriculture Jammu, Anil Gupta, the inspection of the DCTC Jammu Apiaries (Apis mellifera & DBBS), recently migrated to Gaurikund Village, Sudhmahadev (Chenani), was conducted by Assistant Entomologist, Apiculture Development Scheme S. Harvinder Singh. He was accompanied by Shivkant Prasher (JAEO) and other staff members of the Apiculture Development Scheme, Jammu. The team assessed the condition of the bee colonies, availability of floral resources and the maintenance and upkeep of the apiary infrastructure. Detailed instructions were issued to the field staff regarding proper hive management, cleanliness and regular monitoring of bee colonies to ensure their healthy growth and optimum productivity.
The inspection also focused on the maintenance and upkeep of the apiaries including hive management, protection against pests and diseases and ensuring a favorable environment for bee foraging and honey production.
The team expressed satisfaction over the efforts being made for the smooth functioning of the apiaries at the new location.
