KATRA: In a major action against drug trafficking, District Police Reasi on Saturday arrested a notorious and habitual drug peddler near Eidgah Nangal Road in Katra.
The accused has been identified as Maya Mir, wife of Anwar, resident of Railway Road, Katra.
During routine patrolling and checking, police intercepted the accused and recovered 6.360 grams of heroin-like substance from her possession. The following items were also seized on the spot:
- Cash amounting to ₹7,900/-
- An electronic weighing machine
- A plastic container
- 15 strips of aluminium foil
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused is a repeat offender with a history of involvement in drug trafficking and other criminal activities. She has previously been booked in multiple cases at Police Station Katra, including:
- FIR No. 205/2021 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act
- FIR No. 145/2022 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act
- FIR No. 130/2022 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act
- FIR No. 379/2021 U/S 323/341 IPC
- FIR No. 83/2022 U/S 323/341/504/506 IPC
Due to her repeated involvement in drug-related offences, she was also detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in 2022 and lodged in Ambphalla Jail, Jammu.
In the present case, FIR No. 288/2025 has been registered at Police Station Katra under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace her supply network and associates.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of SHO P/S Katra Insp. Khyatiman Khajuria, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS, and SP Katra Vipan Chandran, JKPS.
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh, JKPS, reiterated that the District Police is committed to intensifying its crackdown on narcotics, particularly targeting peddlers preying on the youth. He urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities related to drug abuse or trafficking to the nearest police station.
