BANDIPORA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, today visited the intake sump on River Jhelum to review the preparedness for shifting of electro-mechanical components associated with the water supply system feeding WSS Nowgam Gundi Payeen from the existing structurally unsafe intake sump to the newly constructed structure.
The visit was undertaken in continuation of the administration’s efforts to ensure smooth execution of the proposed shifting work and minimise inconvenience to the population likely to be affected during the transition. The shifting is part of the broader work related to relocation of the Shilvat Pump Station and associated intake/electro-mechanical equipment.
During the visit, the DC took stock of the technical and logistical arrangements and issued on-the-spot directions to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure that all necessary arrangements are put in place for safe, coordinated and hassle-free shifting of the electro-mechanical equipment.
The DC directed for adequate water tankers readily available to meet the drinking water requirements of the affected villages during the shifting process, in addition to the tankers already arranged by the Jal Shakti Department, PHE Sub-Division Sumbal. She stressed that alternate arrangements for potable water must remain functional throughout the shifting period.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by SDM Sumbal Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh, AEE Jal Shakti Department Sumbal, NHAI officials, Mechanical Department officials and other concerned officers.
