JAMMU: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Director General Praveer Ranjan on Wednesday visited the force camp at the Sewa-III Hydroelectric Power Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, a day after four CISF personnel were killed in a firing incident, officials said.
The visit was aimed at assessing the situation on the ground and gathering first-hand information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma, along with senior officers of the CISF and Jammu and Kashmir Police, also visited the camp. The officers reviewed the situation and discussed the sequence of events leading up to the firing.
Four CISF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant and a Sub-Inspector, were killed after a colleague allegedly opened fire following an altercation inside the Sewa-III Hydroelectric Power Project at Mashka village in Basohli, near the Himachal Pradesh border, on Tuesday evening.
The accused CISF personnel was subsequently overpowered and arrested.
During his visit, Ranjan interacted with senior officers and personnel and sought a detailed account of the events before, during and after the firing. He also reviewed security arrangements and measures undertaken at the camp following the incident.
Later, accompanied by senior police and CISF officers, the DG visited the NHPC hospital in adjoining Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, where the bodies of the deceased personnel had been kept.
The CISF has ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident to establish the circumstances leading to the firing.
