KATRA: Reasi Police arrested a man and recovered 7.8 grams of heroin during routine checking and frisking at PCP Nomain in Katra on Wednesday as part of its ongoing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse. According to police, a naka party from Police Station Katra was conducting vehicle checks and frisking pedestrians at around 4:30 pm when a man travelling on foot from Domail towards Katra was intercepted. BARAMULLA: Security forces arrested two alleged overground workers (OGWs) of terrorists and recovered arms, ammunition and explosives from their possession during a joint operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Waseem Ahmad Beigh and Tahir Ahmad Malik, were apprehended during searches conducted by a joint team of police and the Army in the Delina area on Wednesday. JAMMU: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has announced that the nearly 40-kilometre Pathankot–Dayalachak stretch of the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway is expected to open by December, marking a significant boost to regional connectivity. Sharing the update, Dr Singh said the new stretch would bypass the Lakhanpur toll plaza and significantly reduce travel time for commuters. UDHAMPUR: A 40-year-old woman, who was allegedly set on fire by her stepson at her residence in Housing Colony, Udhampur, on Wednesday evening, succumbed to her injuries at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, late last night. SRINAGAR: The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has proposed a household-level enumeration of vulnerable families to identify multidimensional deprivations and improve the targeting of welfare schemes. The proposal was discussed at a meeting chaired by Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to Chief Minister. The review highlighted a significant decline in multidimensional poverty in Jammu & Kashmir. The poverty headcount ratio decreased from 12.56% in 2015–16 to 4.80% in 2019–21, while the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) score fell from 0.055 to 0.020.
