JAMMU: In a significant step toward strengthening specialized ENT healthcare in the region, AIIMS Jammu organized a two-day National Neuro-Otology Workshop on November 21–22.
The event brought together leading neuro-otology experts, faculty members, and medical delegates from across India for advanced clinical training and knowledge exchange.
The workshop focused on enhancing diagnostic and surgical capabilities in vertigo evaluation, vestibular disorders, and otologic procedures—one of the most rapidly evolving areas in ENT care.
Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu, conveyed his message during the inaugural session, emphasizing the institute’s growing role in offering cutting-edge technology-driven healthcare in line with the Government of India’s vision. He highlighted the recent achievements of the ENT department, including the establishment of a dedicated Vertigo Laboratory and the successful execution of high-volume endoscopic and advanced otologic surgeries.
Encouraging the participants, Dr. Gupta said that such academic platforms enhance skills, promote collaboration, and contribute to better patient outcomes.
The workshop was organized by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (Head & Neck Surgery) under the leadership of Dr. Darwin Kaushal, Additional Professor (Course Director), and Dr. Amardeep Singh, Associate Professor (Course Coordinator). Residents, audiologists, and nursing officers played a key role in ensuring smooth scientific sessions and hands-on demonstrations.
Renowned faculty members from across the country—including Dr. Prem Sagar, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Dr. Anita Bhandari, Dr. Sushil Kumar Aggarwal, Dr. Ajay Kotwal, Dr. Noor Malik, Dr. Kshitiz Malik, Dr. Vidhu Sharma, and Dr. Nidhin Das—conducted lectures and live training modules.
Day 1 covered vestibular physiology, clinical reasoning in vertigo management, and hands-on Video Nystagmography (VNG). Day 2 focused on ear surgeries such as myringoplasty, tympanoplasty, and cortical mastoidectomy, followed by scientific paper presentations by young doctors.
With vertigo, imbalance, dizziness, and hearing-related disorders increasingly being recognized as major public health concerns, the workshop aimed to strengthen evidence-based diagnostic and surgical practices.
The successful conduct of this national-level workshop marks another stride for AIIMS Jammu toward becoming a center of excellence in advanced ENT services and specialized patient care in the northern region.
