JAMMU: A three-day Mass Casualty Management (MCM) training programme concluded at AIIMS Jammu on March 28, aimed at strengthening the preparedness of healthcare professionals to handle large-scale emergencies.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr) D.N. Sharma, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu.
The training was led by World Health Organization expert Dr Harald Veen, an internationally recognised course leader in disaster and emergency care. It brought together doctors and nurses from AIIMS Jammu, AIIMS Delhi, and District Hospital Leh.
Designed to enhance response capacity in casualty-prone areas of the northern region, the programme focused on key aspects such as triage, rapid assessment, coordinated teamwork, and optimal use of resources during emergencies. Participants were also engaged in interactive sessions and hands-on exercises, including simulated real-life disaster scenarios to build practical skills.
Officials said the initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening emergency healthcare services in the region. By equipping frontline workers with essential knowledge and training, it aims to improve patient outcomes during mass casualty incidents and disasters.
They added that such programmes are vital for building a resilient healthcare system capable of responding swiftly and effectively to unforeseen emergencies.
