NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday received a call from US President Donald Trump during which the two leaders discussed the security situation in West Asia and emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.
PM Modi, in a post on X, said that both leaders reviewed the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation across various sectors and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the United States.
“Received a call from my friend President Donald Trump. We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas,” PM Modi said.
He further added, “We also discussed the situation in West Asia and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.”
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor termed the conversation as “very positive and productive,” responding to PM Modi’s post on X by saying, “A very positive and productive call! Stay tuned…”
The two leaders had earlier spoken on March 24, during which they exchanged views on the evolving situation in West Asia. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s support for de-escalation and early restoration of peace in the ongoing tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, PM Modi had underlined that it must remain open, secure, and accessible, calling it vital for global peace, stability, and economic well-being.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance stated on Sunday that no agreement had been reached in talks with Iran despite prolonged negotiations in Pakistan, adding that the discussions had reached a stalemate. He noted that while the US delegation would return home, the outcome of the talks was “bad news for Iran” more than for the United States.
