Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, expressing confidence that Tehran will eventually concede to American demands even as recent high-stakes talks ended without an agreement.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump asserted that Iran would return to the negotiating table, stating, “I predict they come back and they give us everything we want,” while claiming that the Iranian leadership “has no cards.”
The US President also defended his aggressive rhetoric, including a recent warning about the destruction of an entire civilisation, arguing that such statements compelled Iran to engage in negotiations.
Escalating his tone, Trump warned of swift and overwhelming military action if talks fail. He claimed the US could “take out Iran in one day,” detailing potential strikes targeting the country’s energy and infrastructure systems, including power plants and bridges.
The remarks came in the wake of a 21-hour round of negotiations held in Islamabad, which concluded without a formal breakthrough. US Vice President JD Vance confirmed the deadlock, describing the outcome as “bad news for Iran” while noting that no agreement had been reached.
“We’ve had a number of substantive agreements… but we have not reached an overall deal,” Vance said, adding that Washington had presented its “final and best offer” to Tehran.
According to Vance, the US had sought firm assurances that Iran would not pursue nuclear weapons, but negotiations stalled as Tehran declined to accept the terms despite what he described as a flexible US approach.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media, including Press TV, blamed the failure of talks on “excessive demands” by Washington, citing disputes over nuclear rights and control of the Strait of Hormuz as key sticking points.
The diplomatic impasse marks a setback to ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.
