JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and arrested a public servant for demanding and accepting a bribe in Reasi district.
According to an official statement, FIR No. 03/2026 under Section 07 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered at Police Station ACB Udhampur against Rahul Gandotra, Junior Engineer (JE), presently posted as Technical Assistant (TA) in the Block Development Office (BDO), Gulabgarh, Mahore, District Reasi.
The accused public servant allegedly demanded a bribe from a complainant for preparation of a bill related to a Rural Development Department (RDD) work executed by the complainant. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau seeking legal action against the accused.
On receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification, which corroborated the demand of bribe by the public servant. Subsequently, a formal case was registered and investigation was taken up.
During the investigation, a trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police was constituted. The team laid a successful trap, during which the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of ₹8,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was arrested on the spot after following due legal procedure, and the bribe money was recovered from his possession.
The ACB team also conducted a search at the residence of the accused located at House No. 215, Ward No. 24, Rehari, Jammu, in the presence of a Magistrate.
It is pertinent to mention that three other FIRs under the Prevention of Corruption Act have already been registered against the accused at Police Station ACB Udhampur and are presently under investigation.
Further investigation in the instant case is underway, the statement said.
