JAMMU: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today felicitated the Jammu and Kashmir Under-16 cricket team for clinching the Vijay Merchant Trophy (Plate Group), terming the achievement a proud milestone in the sporting history of the Union Territory.
Interacting with the players, the Chief Minister congratulated them for their outstanding performance and enquired about their individual and team contributions. He also encouraged them to maintain their winning momentum and focus equally on academics and overall personality development.
“You have proved that discipline, teamwork and dedication lead to success. This victory has made the whole of Jammu and Kashmir proud,” Omar Abdullah said while addressing the team.
An appreciation trophy was presented to the winning team, led by captain Smagey Khajuria, in recognition of their historic feat.
On January 6, J&K defeated Mizoram by an innings and 182 runs in the final held at Surat, Gujarat, lifting the Vijay Merchant Trophy for the first time ever.
