JAMMU: The 17th Junior Roll Ball National Championship was inaugurated on Monday at the MA Stadium Skating Rink, Jammu, marking the start of a major national sporting event in Jammu and Kashmir. The championship will continue till January 1, 2026.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani graced the opening ceremony as chief dignitaries. They were warmly welcomed by the Secretary, J&K Sports Council.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister said that hosting national-level championships reflects the growing sports ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that such events help nurture young talent, promote unity, and position Jammu as a vibrant sporting destination.
Sports Minister Satish Sharma said sports play a vital role in promoting fitness, discipline, and peace among the youth. He highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as a preferred venue for national sporting events, projecting a positive image of the region across the country.
Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani said the participation of teams from across India demonstrates the confidence reposed in Jammu and Kashmir as a capable host. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing world-class sports infrastructure and opportunities for young athletes.
During the ceremony, international Roll Ball players from J&K, Suvidha Sareen and Hiteshwar Singh, were felicitated for winning gold medals at the Roll Ball World Cup.
Around 600 players and officials from 26 States and Union Territories are participating in the championship. Senior officials from the Roll Ball Federation of India and the J&K Roll Ball Association were also present.
The championship is being hosted and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council in collaboration with the J&K Roll Ball Association.
