NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary to implead individuals responsible for uploading allegedly objectionable and defamatory content against him on social media platforms.
Choudhary, a leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, has filed a defamation suit seeking a permanent and mandatory injunction against the circulation of videos and posts with sexual undertones on Facebook, YouTube and other platforms. His counsel argued that the content, which features his face alongside that of a woman, continues to circulate online and urged the court to order its immediate removal.
Justice Amit Bansal, while advancing the hearing date from January 13, 2026, to December 16, questioned the urgency, noting that the videos have been online for over a year.
“Your face has been there for over one year and you have just woken up now… let the uploaders come, then we will pass an order,” the judge remarked.
The court asked Meta Platforms to provide IP addresses and basic subscriber information of the uploaders within three days, enabling the plaintiff to issue notices. Choudhary has also been instructed to file transcripts of the alleged content to allow the court to assess whether it is defamatory.
Earlier, the court observed that the plaintiff had not submitted transcripts or full recordings and directed him to place the allegedly offensive material on record. The counsel stated that most of the URLs pertain to content uploaded nearly two years ago, some linked to media reports.
