JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday trapped and arrested Ganderab Singh, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Thalora, Tehsil Majalta (Udhampur), along with Kuldeep Kumar, Chowkidar, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant.
The ACB registered FIR No. 03/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) of BNS, 2023 after receiving a complaint alleging that the accused Patwari had demanded money in lieu of correcting the complainant’s name in revenue records. Refusing to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Bureau seeking legal action.
Upon receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification, which confirmed the demand for bribe. Subsequently, a trap team led by a DySP-rank officer was constituted and a successful operation was carried out.
Both officials were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe, in the presence of independent witnesses. The bribe money was recovered on the spot, and the accused were immediately arrested following due legal procedure. Searches were also conducted at the residential accommodation of the Patwari in Khoon, Majalta, in the presence of a Magistrate.
The ACB said that further investigation is underway.
