JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister on Wednesday felicitated cricketer Anekha Devi for her remarkable performance in the inaugural T20 World Cup for the Blind, where India clinched the championship title.
He praised her grit and determination, stating that her achievement has brought immense pride to Jammu and Kashmir and the nation.
Anekha Devi received a warm reception on Tuesday from various organisations, including the Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS), in recognition of her stellar performance in the global tournament.
The 20-year-old cricketer, daughter of daily wager Bachitar Singh from the remote Machhedi (Bajohi) village in Kathua district, represented India in the maiden edition of the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup for the Blind 2025.
The Indian women’s blind cricket team scripted history by lifting the trophy after defeating Nepal by seven wickets in the final held in Colombo. India maintained an unbeaten streak throughout the tournament—starting with a win over Sri Lanka, followed by a 57-run victory against Australia after they faltered chasing a 293-run target. The team then outclassed Pakistan, chasing 136 in just 10.2 overs.
In the semi-final, India again dominated Australia with a nine-wicket win, before capping their campaign with a commanding victory over Nepal in the final.
