SRINAGAR: In a significant step to enhance communication for Indian troops, Reliance Jio, in collaboration with the Chinar Corps and Vajr Division of the Indian Army, has installed five new mobile towers in the remote Gurez region of Bandipora, Kashmir.
According to a post by Kupwara Sentinels on social media platform X, these towers will provide stable connectivity to strategically critical forward posts located at an average altitude of 13,000 feet, enabling soldiers to stay connected with their families and ensuring seamless communication in challenging terrains.
The initiative marks another milestone in Jio’s collaboration with the Indian Army. Earlier, Jio became the first telecom operator to provide service at the Siachen Glacier, situated at 16,000 feet, where 4G and 5G services were launched just before Army Day on January 15.
Kupwara Sentinels described the development as a “remarkable achievement” in improving digital connectivity for soldiers in extreme conditions. The project underlines the importance of strengthening communication infrastructure in remote and strategic areas, ensuring better operational efficiency and welfare of deployed troops.
