JAMMU: Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu, successfully performed a Radio-frequency Ablation (RFA) procedure on a patient suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia, a condition characterized by severe, electric shock-like facial pain.
The 67-year-old male patient from Kathua district had been enduring intense facial pain for several years, which significantly affected his ability to eat and perform daily activities. He was treated at the Pain Clinic, AIIMS Jammu, where he was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia.
The minimally invasive RFA procedure was performed by Dr. Kanika Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology, under X-ray guidance, assisted by Dr. Marvi, Senior Resident, Department of Anaesthesiology. Following the procedure, the patient experienced complete relief from pain, has resumed normal daily activities, and no longer requires pain medications, reporting a significant improvement in quality of life.
