SRINAGAR: In a heartwarming gesture celebrating sporting excellence, Dr. Karan Singh, former Sadr-i-Riyasat and eminent statesman, honoured young athlete Mohsin Ali and his coach, Bilquis Mir, for winning a gold medal at the Khelo India Water Sports event held in Srinagar this August.
The felicitation ceremony took place at Srinagar and was attended by Martand Singh, Trustee of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust and grandson of Dr. Karan Singh.
Dr. Karan Singh lauded Mohsin Ali’s exceptional performance against strong competitors from Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, commending his determination and discipline. He also praised Bilquis Mir, an internationally acclaimed coach and Paris Olympics Jury Member, for her dedication and long-standing contribution to water sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing gratitude, Bilquis Mir thanked Dr. Karan Singh and Martand Singh for the recognition and said the honour would further motivate Mohsin and other young athletes to pursue excellence.
The duo also shared insights into the rapid growth of sports infrastructure and talent development in Jammu & Kashmir under the Prime Minister’s Khelo India Scheme and other initiatives promoting youth engagement through sports.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his recent Mann Ki Baat address, personally congratulated Mohsin Ali and Coach Bilquis Mir, appreciating their achievement and contribution to India’s rising sports culture.
