JAMMU: National Health Mission (NHM) employees on Friday deferred their ongoing strike for one month after Health Minister Sakeena Itoo gave a written assurance that their legitimate and long-pending demands would be examined and necessary steps taken for their resolution.
The decision followed a meeting between representatives of the protesting employees and the government, during which the Health Minister assured the employees in writing that their demands would be duly considered.
Addressing the media after the meeting, representatives of the NHM employees said they had decided to defer the strike following the written assurance from the Health Minister. They said the assurance reflected the government’s concern over the issues being raised by the protesting workforce.
The employees said the strike had been deferred for a month in the hope that the government would take concrete and serious steps towards resolving their long-pending demands during this period.
NHM employees have been pressing for the settlement of several service-related issues, including job security, regularisation and other employment matters.
Employee leaders expressed gratitude to Sakeena Itoo for providing the written assurance and said they hoped their legitimate demands would be addressed with sincerity and in a time-bound manner.
