BARAMULLA: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, today attended the final match of the second edition of Behrampora Football Cup 2026 as the chief guest at Behrampora Sports Field
The final witnessed an exciting contest between the Kupwara Football team and Behrampora Football team, with Kupwara emerging victorious after a keenly fought encounter to lift the championship trophy.
Congratulating the winning team, the Minister extended his best wishes to the runner-up Behrampora team, appreciating both sides for their competitive spirit, discipline and sportsmanship. He lauded all the participating teams and organisers for making the tournament a successful platform for promoting football and encouraging greater youth participation in sports.
Javid Dar said that sports not merely a means of recreation but a powerful instrument for building character, discipline, confidence and leadership among the younger generation. He said that sporting activities provide youth with a constructive avenue to channelise their energy, nurture their talent and aspire for excellence.
The Minister observed that grassroots sporting events have the potential to unite communities, foster a spirit of camaraderie and inspire young people to pursue their dreams with dedication and perseverance. He emphasised the need for sustained efforts to create a vibrant sporting culture across rural and semi-urban areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
Highlighting the government’s commitment towards strengthening sports infrastructure at the grassroots level, the Minister announced provision and upgradation of basic sports infrastructure at Behrampora Sports Field. He announced that macadamisation work at the ground will also be undertaken wherever required, so as to improve the facilities and provide a better playing environment for local youth and sports enthusiasts.
Javid Dar said that developing quality sports facilities closer to communities is essential for identifying and nurturing sporting talent at the grassroots. He maintained that the government will continue to support initiatives that provide young people with better opportunities, facilities and platforms to excel in sports.
The Minister also interacted with the players, organisers and local residents and appreciated the efforts of the organising committee in successfully conducting the tournament.
A large gathering comprising public representatives, senior citizens, youth, sports enthusiasts and people from adjoining areas attended the event.
