SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested two police officials in Srinagar in connection with an alleged ₹15,000 bribery case, officials said.
According to the ACB, it received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, Investigating Officer in FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, had allegedly demanded illegal gratification through his accomplice Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
Following receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification which, according to the agency, prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification.
Subsequently, FIR No. 12/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the BNS.
During the investigation, the ACB constituted a trap team which allegedly caught Ravi Jee Bhat red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant on behalf of the investigating officer.
The bribe amount was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, following which he was taken into custody.
The ACB said PSI Karanjeet Singh, described as the co-conspirator in the case, was subsequently arrested by the Bureau.
Further investigation is underway.
