JAMMU: A special felicitation ceremony was held at Hotel Hari Niwas here to recognise 25 girls who completed digital-skills training under the third batch of “Vriddhi–The Digital Beti”, an initiative conceptualised by Kunwrani Dr Ritu Singh.
Implemented by the Ashok Kapur Foundation in collaboration with NIIT, New Delhi, the initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide by providing computer literacy and technology-based learning opportunities to girls from underserved communities.
The beneficiaries, drawn from villages surrounding Marh block, were trained by Rohit Charak, a computer instructor at Delhi Public School Nagbani.
The ceremony was attended by Anjali Khosla and Nandita Baig from New Delhi, besides DPS Nagbani Principal R K Verma.
Speakers appreciated Dr Singh’s leadership and commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive education. They said the initiative was enabling girls to use technology for learning, innovation and personal development while helping them become confident and self-reliant citizens.
The dignitaries also lauded the Ashok Kapur Foundation and NIIT for promoting equitable access to digital education and creating opportunities for girls in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Expressing gratitude, Dr Singh reaffirmed her commitment to expanding the initiative so that more girls could benefit from digital education, skill development and holistic empowerment.
“Investing in the education and digital capabilities of girls is an investment in the nation’s future,” she said.
Dr Singh also announced that the Foundation would soon launch an in-house training programme for marginalised sections of society. The proposed programme will focus on imparting relevant skills, improving employability and preparing participants for job opportunities, thereby promoting social and economic inclusion.
