KATHMANDU At least 105 Indian tourists are among 384 people reported missing after massive flash floods struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district bordering Tibet on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction across several areas.
According to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), those missing include 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepalese citizens.
Among the foreign travellers are 105 Indian tourists and 37 NRIs, while others are from the United States, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands.
Officials said the sudden flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 am local time, with the waters coming from the Tibet side.
The flooding affected Rasuwa and Dhading districts, both bordering Tibet, as well as Nuwakot district southwest of Kathmandu.
At least four people were killed as the floodwaters swept through settlements along the river, damaging houses, roads and other infrastructure.
Authorities said at least a dozen hydropower projects were also damaged in the disaster.
Rescue and search operations are underway as authorities attempt to trace the missing travellers and assess the full extent of the damage.
