LEH: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, today reaffirmed the Union Territory Administration’s commitment to inclusive and equitable development, particularly in Ladakh’s far-flung and remote areas.
Addressing a Public Darbar during his maiden visit to the Nyoma sub-division, the Lt Governor said that direct engagement with citizens is the foundation of effective governance. “Direct interaction helps us understand people’s concerns, build trust, and ensure that development reaches every household,” he noted.
Underscoring the government’s resolve to bridge the gap between urban centres and remote hamlets, the Lt Governor assured that no village, however distant, will be left behind in Ladakh’s journey of progress.
Marking the occasion, the Lt Governor inaugurated the new Tehsildar Office and Record Room at Nyoma, built at a cost of ₹2.95 crore, and laid the foundation for the SDM’s residential quarters, estimated at ₹1.08 crore. He recalled his recent visits to Kargil and Suru Valley, saying such grassroots-level tours allow the administration to identify and resolve region-specific challenges.
Outlining his vision for Ladakh, Gupta highlighted:
- Connectivity & Tourism: Plans to expand road and telecom networks, develop tourist facilities in remote areas, and establish amenities like cafeterias, washrooms, and souvenir shops every 30 km along major routes.
- Homestay Policy: Extension of the Ladakh Homestay Policy benefits to locals, ensuring community participation in the tourism economy.
- Strategic Development: Strengthening defence infrastructure, including the airstrip at Mudh, which also enhances civil connectivity.
- Youth & Sports: Harnessing Changthang’s potential for ice hockey and winter sports by developing dedicated sports infrastructure and creating platforms for local talent.
During the Darbar, residents raised issues related to healthcare, ambulance services, staff shortages, power supply, and water availability under the Jal Jeevan Mission. They also sought prefabricated houses for nomads and installation of 4G BSNL towers in uncovered villages. The Lt Governor assured that all genuine demands will be addressed in a time-bound manner.
He also interacted with Astronomy Ambassadors trained in stargazing activities, who thanked the administration for providing them with sustainable livelihood opportunities.
In his concluding remarks, Kavinder Gupta said: “Every step we take—whether in infrastructure, tourism, or youth empowerment—is directed at securing a prosperous and self-reliant Ladakh.”
