JAMMU: Concerned over the growing involvement of two-wheelers in road accidents, Traffic Police Rural Jammu has decided to launch a two-week intensive Awareness-cum-Enforcement Drive W.E.F. 01/09/2026 to 14/09/2026 across four Districts of Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch to curb traffic violations and enhance road safety.
According to analysis of road accident data from January 01 to July 31, 2026, a total of 699 road accidents were reported in the four Districts, resulting in 88 fatalities and injuries to 1001 persons. The data reveals that two-wheelers were involved in 309 accidents, accounting for 44 per cent of the total road mishaps. Besides this, 02 wheelers were also involved in 39 fatal accidents, representing 44 per cent of all fatal crashes during the period. The analysis further shows that 384 persons were injured in accidents involving two-wheelers, while 144 single-vehicle accidents involved two-wheelers. Of the accidents reported on National Highways, 102 cases (41 per cent) involved two-wheelers whereas 210 cases (47 per cent) on other roads were linked to two-wheelers. Further it was also observed 27 per cent of accident victims were aged below 26 years.
In view of these findings, the Traffic Police rural Jammu will undertake strict enforcement against major traffic violations committed by two-wheeler riders including riding without helmets, pillion riding without helmets, triple riding, use of mobile phones while driving, unauthorized vehicle modifications, driving by minors, driving without D/L, Over speeding and dangerous driving.
Alongside enforcement, an extensive awareness campaign will also be conducted at colleges, educational institutions, bus stands, tuition centers, libraries and other public places across all the four Districts. The campaign aims to educate road users, particularly young riders, about the importance of following traffic rules and adopting safe riding practices.
SSP Traffic Rural Jammu Farooq Qaiser said that the success of the drive shall not be measured by the numbers of challans issued but by the accidents prevented, injuries avoided and lives saved. He has also appealed to the public, especially two-wheeler riders, to cooperate with the drive, comply with traffic regulations and contribute towards making roads safer for all.
