NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi held a breakfast meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also joining the high-profile interaction.
Visuals shared by the Congress showed the leaders engaged in conversation over breakfast, with Rahul Gandhi and Anwar Ibrahim also exchanging a handshake and sharing smiles during the meeting.
The interaction took place as the two-day BRICS Summit entered its concluding phase following the adoption of the comprehensive New Delhi Declaration 2026 on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed visiting world leaders at Bharat Mandapam ahead of the open session titled ‘Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth’.
Modi also welcomed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo with a warm handshake.
The New Delhi Declaration expressed deep concern over the continuing escalation of tensions in West Asia and called for maximum restraint while urging all sides to avoid actions that could further aggravate the situation. The declaration also reaffirmed BRICS’ support for a lasting two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and called for stronger international institutional support for Palestine, while reaffirming Israel’s legal obligation to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza.
