JAMMU: Rotary Jammu Stars, under the leadership of President Rtn. Advocate Neetu Kour Bali, organised a Green Legacy Plantation Drive at Sainik School Nagrota in collaboration with the school administration, NEXANS Alumni, Oxygen Footprints and Green City Nursery & Consultancy, planting more than 600 plants and saplings as part of the Government of India’s environmental initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.
The plantation drive featured a diverse range of fruit-bearing, flowering, ornamental, medicinal and indigenous species, with the initiative aimed at promoting biodiversity conservation, soil and water conservation, campus beautification and the creation of eco-friendly learning spaces for cadets.
As part of the programme, Senior Agriculture Officer Pankaj Verma delivered an awareness lecture for school cadets on emerging environmental challenges, healthy lifestyles and the importance, uses and benefits of medicinal plants. The session encouraged the cadets to adopt environmentally responsible practices and develop a stronger connection with nature.
Principal Capt. IN Shinu Devasia, Vice Principal Sq. Ldr. Poonam, President NEXANS Alumni Brig. Gurmeet Singh Shan, Er. Harneet Singh of Oxygen Footprints and Pankaj Verma were felicitated by Rotary Jammu Stars President Neetu Kour Bali in recognition of their support and contribution to the initiative.
The event witnessed participation from several prominent citizens, including Dr. Vikrant Singh Chandal, Deputy Director Prosecution Anuj Gupta, Kewal Krishan, Harbinder Singh, President Raghunath Bazar Association, Col. Jagmeet Singh, SSP Randheer Singh, Advocate Amandeep Singh, Inspector Ajit Singh, Puneet Gupta, Suresh Chander, Jatinder Singh Toor, S. Hardeep Singh and Nardeep Singh, among others.
The Principal of Sainik School Nagrota and representatives of Oxygen Footprints appreciated Rotary Jammu Stars for the initiative and its collaborative efforts towards environmental protection, sustainability and awareness among young cadets.
The programme seeks to nurture long-term environmental responsibility among students through tree adoption, regular plant care, biodiversity gardens and awareness about sustainable living, with the message, “One Child – One Tree – One Responsibility.”
The plantation included Mango, Mulberry, Guava, Jamun, Bael, Amla, Hibiscus, Raat Ki Rani, Parijat, Muraya, Russelia, Aloe Vera, Ashwagandha, Arjun, Kapur, Sukhchain, Behra, Bottle Brush, Kachnar, Cassia and Amaltas, among other species.
The Green Legacy Plantation Drive underscored Rotary Jammu Stars’ focus on environmental stewardship, community participation and youth engagement while reinforcing the broader national message of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.
