MANASBAL: On the eve of World Tourism Day, Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority (WMDA) today conducted an awareness drive around various villages of Manasbal Lake.
During the drive, officials, workers and volunteers of WMDA, representatives of civil society groups and students went round the catchment areas of Manasbal lake with the message of protecting it from pollution and solid waste dumping.
The participants appealed the people living in these areas to cooperate with the field sanitation volunteers of the WMDA in improving the sanitation in and around the lake besides encouraging eco-tourism in the area.
Carrying placards and banners, the participants went round various villages, interacted with locals and apprised them about observing Waste Management Rules and various environmental laws.
Later, an interactive session was held on the sidelines of the event in collaboration with a local NGO in which speakers dwelt in detail about creating best practices in Nature and environmental conservation.
Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ahsanul Haq Chishti in his address said WMDA would continue to provide a platform for the creative endeavours in environmental conservation and waste management. He said WMDA would continue to encourage and support these initiatives.
ACR, Bandipore, Shabir Ahmad; senior faculty from Central University of Kashmir; representatives of various civil society groups and students from various educational institutions attended the session.
