JAMMU: The Sports Unit of MIER College of Education (Autonomous) organized an engaging Chess Match for both boys and girls, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of the School of Education (SOE) and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH).
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Adit Gupta, Principal, MIER College of Education, who encouraged students to actively take part in co-curricular activities, highlighting their importance in fostering holistic learning and overall development. Also present were Dr. Nishta Rana, Head of SOE, and Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head of SSSH, along with faculty members, who motivated the participants throughout the competition.
The matches were keenly contested, showcasing the strategic skills, focus, and determination of the players. In the boys’ category, Khushal (B.A. Political Science, Semester V) clinched the first position, while Mufaid and Partyush (both from B.A. Political Science, Semester I) secured the second and third places respectively. In the girls’ category, Gunjan Kumari (B.Ed. Special Education, Semester I) emerged as the winner, followed by Saniya (B.Ed. Special Education, Semester I) in second place, and Purvi Gupta (B.Ed. Special Education, Semester I) in third place.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Adit Gupta lauded the efforts of the Sports Unit, noting that the Chess Match not only encouraged healthy competition but also promoted sportsmanship, camaraderie, and community spirit among students and staff, making the event a memorable experience.
The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. C.R. Jangra, Incharge, Games and Sports Unit, under the guidance of Imran, PTI, Model Academy School.
