JAMMU: MIER College of Education (Autonomous), Jammu, successfully conducted two intensive workshops on Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration in higher education from October 6–9, 2025, in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada.
Dr. Kaushal Kumar Bhagat, Assistant Professor at the Advanced Technology Development Centre and Vice Chairman of the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Virtual Skilling at IIT Kharagpur, served as the resource person for both workshops.
The first workshop, titled “Institutional AI Policy for Teaching, Learning and Research,” was held on October 6–7, 2025. It brought together faculty members to develop a comprehensive institutional framework for responsible AI integration. Conducted at the Computer Lab and Conference Room in the Administrative Wing, the sessions focused on institutional AI readiness, ethical considerations, data governance, and alignment with national and global standards.
Faculty members engaged in collaborative group work structured around five key policy dimensions — policy rationale and strategy alignment; infrastructure and data governance; AI-enhanced teaching and assessment; capacity building and professional development; and governance and ethics of AI.
Building on this foundation, the second workshop, titled “Teaching with Generative AI,” was organised on October 8–9, 2025, offering hands-on training on the use of generative AI tools in classroom teaching. Participants learned advanced prompting techniques, including the ART model, and developed AI-integrated assessments, curriculum materials, and customised AI chatbots for educational purposes such as tutoring and feedback. The sessions emphasised responsible AI usage while maintaining academic integrity and ethical practices.
Through these workshops, participants enhanced their understanding of generative AI applications in higher education, explored ethical considerations like bias and privacy, and learned to implement AI-driven assessment strategies. Training highlights included analysing AI outputs using the SIFT method, designing AI-integrated curricula, aligning assessments with the AI Assessment Scale, and creating AI syllabus statements to promote transparency and ethical use of technology.
The workshops were coordinated by Prof. Mool Raj, Head of the Centre for Educational Technology at MIER College, under the leadership of Prof. Adit Gupta, Director, MIER College of Education.
