JAMMU: Martand Singh, scion of the Dogra Royal Family and Trustee of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust, has urged the newly appointed President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Mithun Manhas, to implement comprehensive reforms in the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and establish a world-class cricket stadium in the Union Territory.
In a press release, Martand Singh highlighted that JKCA’s last elections were held in 2016 and emphasized that reforms are crucial for ensuring transparency, accountability, and professionalism. A democratically elected and well-structured association, he said, would help utilize resources effectively, provide fair opportunities to budding cricketers across J&K, and foster an encouraging environment for youth to excel in the sport.
He also called for the construction of a modern stadium, noting that such infrastructure would expose local players to international standards, attract national and international matches, and place J&K on the global cricketing map. Martand Singh added that a world-class stadium could also boost tourism, generate employment, and contribute to the region’s economic development.
“A modern stadium in J&K can become a hub of sporting excellence while simultaneously creating jobs, promoting tourism, and presenting the Union Territory as a vibrant destination for sports and culture,” he said.
Expressing confidence in Mithun Manhas—himself a native of Jammu & Kashmir—Martand Singh hoped that the cricket fraternity’s aspirations would be realized, paving the way for sporting progress and economic growth in the region.
