CHICAGO: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday addressed the IIT (BHU) Global Alumni Meet in Chicago, Illinois, highlighting India’s technological ambitions, the importance of responsible artificial intelligence and the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Paying tribute to Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, Sinha recalled his visionary contribution to engineering education and India’s industrial development, saying his ideals continue to inspire generations to advance technology, strengthen the economy and serve society.
Speaking on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence, the Lieutenant Governor said AI would be a major driver of economic growth by combining human potential with machine intelligence. He stressed the need for “Responsible AI”, rooted in ethics, core values and stringent human oversight.
Sinha said technology must be guided proactively by humanity so that its benefits contribute to the collective well-being of society.
Highlighting India’s emergence as a global power, he said the country was becoming stronger domestically, more confident internationally and increasingly prepared to contribute to shaping humanity’s future.
“India is rapidly advancing toward technological leadership while building on unprecedented social welfare initiatives, paving the way for a great resurgence,” he said.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha described the Union Territory’s transformation over the past six years as historic, attributing it to the abrogation of Article 370 and subsequent development initiatives.
He said the region had moved “from shadows of fear to the light of opportunity, from isolation to integration, and from despair to destiny”, opening new avenues for development, investment and employment.
Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s historic address in Chicago on September 11, 1893, Sinha praised the contribution of IIT (BHU) alumni and the Indian diaspora to global society and urged them to play a greater role in India’s ongoing economic and civilisational resurgence.
The Lieutenant Governor outlined a four-point roadmap for the global alumni community, calling for greater investment in next-generation Indian institutions through mentorship and capital, stronger partnerships between American and Indian institutions, efforts to present an accurate account of India’s transformation and deeper engagement with their roots by bringing their expertise and experience back to the country.
Members of the IIT (BHU) Global Alumni Association and prominent citizens from diverse fields attended the event.
