LEH: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, today inaugurated the newly constructed Office Building, Residence, and Patwar Khana of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) at Kharu.
The modern complex, built at a cost of Rs 20.58 crore, is expected to significantly strengthen revenue administration and improve facilities for both officials and the public in the sub-division.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Lt Governor stressed the importance of citizen-centric governance and directed officials to ensure transparency, accountability, and time-bound service delivery. He underlined that efficient handling of public grievances and grassroots-level responsiveness were key to building trust and strengthening governance.
The Lt Governor also inspected the Geothermal Heat Pump-based Space Heating System at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Thiksey. Developed jointly by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and Alfen Alfa Group on a pilot basis, the project aims to provide an eco-friendly, cost-effective solution to meet Ladakh’s pressing heating needs during extreme winters.
Highlighting its significance, Shri Gupta said the initiative, if successful, could be scaled up across health centres, schools, and government offices in Ladakh. He emphasised that adopting sustainable technologies is vital to protect the fragile Himalayan ecology, reduce reliance on conventional fuels, and ensure reliable infrastructure in remote, high-altitude areas.
Reaffirming the administration’s vision, the Lt Governor reiterated Ladakh’s commitment to becoming a carbon-neutral Union Territory. He said such clean energy solutions will play a pivotal role in achieving this goal while also improving healthcare and public service delivery.
