JAMMU: In the wake of unprecedented rainfall that caused widespread waterlogging and damage across Jammu city, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has launched intensive cleanliness and relief operations to restore normalcy and provide immediate support to affected residents.
The incessant downpour inundated several low-lying areas, with water mixed with silt and debris entering homes in localities such as Peer Ko, Gorakh Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, and Gujjar Nagar.
Responding swiftly, JMC has deployed dedicated teams led by nodal officers—including transport and sanitation officials—while pressing additional machinery and manpower into service. Over 200 extra Nallah labourers have been hired on an emergency basis to clear muck, while massive cleanliness drives are being carried out on a war footing.
Overflow of the Tawi River further aggravated the situation, damaging infrastructure and residential areas. Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav has instructed all departments to expedite cleaning operations, restore essential services, and ensure immediate relief. Personally visiting affected sites, he is monitoring operations on the ground.
Large-scale debris removal is underway with JCBs and other heavy machinery, while field teams continue manual clearing of lanes and drains. Water tankers have been deployed across wards to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply. JMC is also coordinating with power and utility departments to restore disrupted electricity services.
To prevent outbreaks of waterborne and vector-borne diseases, Dr. Yadav has urged residents to cooperate with field teams, maintain hygiene, and avoid consumption of untreated water. Awareness drives are being intensified to prevent illnesses such as dengue, malaria, and cholera.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation has reassured citizens that every possible measure is being taken to restore normalcy at the earliest. Emergency response teams remain on high alert, and continuous monitoring of the situation is being carried out to address emerging needs.
