SRINAGAR: Under the leadership of Mohammad Younis Malik, Director, JKEDI, a one-day Capacity Building Programme was organized on MSME Health Clinics at its Sempora, Pampore campus today, aimed at enhancing the capacity of field-level officials to assess the overall health, sustainability and potential stress factors affecting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The programme brought together Industry Promotion Officers (IPOs) from the District Industries Centres (DICs), Small Business Development Unit (SBDU) officials from Mission YUVA, and District Nodal Officers (DNOs) of JKEDI.
The sessions provided participants with a practical understanding of the MSME Health Clinic framework and equipped them with tools and techniques to identify early warning signs of financial, operational and other forms of business stress. The programme highlighted the importance of timely assessment and intervention in ensuring the long-term sustainability of MSMEs.
A key component of the programme was the introduction to a data-driven approach for assessing the health of enterprises. Participants were familiarised with various indicators, including GST turnover and filing patterns, EPFO compliance, electricity consumption and payment trends, Udyam-related data and key financial parameters. The sessions stressed that individual indicators should not be viewed in isolation; rather, multiple parameters need to be analysed together to identify patterns and understand the underlying causes of enterprise stress.
The programme also featured case-study-based exercises, allowing participants to apply the concepts in practical scenarios. Through these exercises, officials analysed the health of MSMEs, connected different data points, identified early warning signals, assessed the severity of emerging stress and explored appropriate corrective measures.
The interactive sessions and discussions provided participants with an opportunity to strengthen their analytical and field-level capabilities while gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges confronting MSMEs. The programme concluded with an emphasis on adopting a proactive, evidence-based and field-oriented approach to MSME support. Such an approach can help identify emerging challenges at an early stage and facilitate timely interventions before they develop into serious financial or operational distress.
The participating officials actively contributed to the technical sessions, discussions and case-based exercises, making the programme an engaging and practical capacity-building initiative.
