KATHUA: In a major step against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday destroyed a massive consignment of seized narcotic drugs weighing 174.981 kg along with 1,945 narcotic capsules and tablets, valued at approximately ₹2.33 crore, in Kathua district.
The destruction was carried out at M/s Anmol Healthcare, Rara, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Ramgarh in Samba district, by a police team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma, IPS, after obtaining approval from the competent authority and following all prescribed legal procedures.
The destroyed contraband included 2.05 kg of heroin, 7.68 kg of ganja, 162.649 kg of poppy straw, 2.126 kg of charas, 482 grams of opium, along with 1,036 capsules and 909 tablets containing narcotic and psychotropic substances.
Police said the narcotics were seized in 43 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and had been stored in various police malkhanas before being disposed of through incineration at the authorised facility.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Mohita Sharma reaffirmed the district police’s commitment to its anti-drug campaign and said stringent action against drug traffickers would continue, while ensuring the timely and lawful disposal of seized narcotics.
