MUMBAI: Interest in the Jio Platforms initial public offering (IPO) is building ahead of its scheduled opening on October 21, with reports indicating nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore in preliminary interest from domestic and global institutional investors.
The reported figure is more than eight times the estimated issue size of around ₹30,200 crore. However, the amount represents early indications of institutional interest and not formal IPO subscriptions.
According to reports, the interest spans sovereign wealth funds, global long-term investors, domestic mutual funds and insurance companies, suggesting significant institutional attention ahead of the public offering.
Among the major international investors reported to have shown interest are GIC, Norges Bank Investment Management, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Qatar Investment Authority, BlackRock, Fidelity and Capital Group. On the domestic front, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), SBI Mutual Fund and HDFC Mutual Fund are among the institutions reportedly interested in the issue.
Meanwhile, retail investors can pre-apply for the IPO through several brokerage platforms. The facility allows investors to place orders in advance, although these will become part of the formal bidding process only after the issue opens on October 21.
The IPO has a price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share, with a minimum application lot of 12 shares. At the upper end of the price band, retail investors would need to invest ₹13,428 to apply for one lot.
The public issue will open on October 21 and close on October 23, 2026. Ahead of the opening, the anchor investor book is scheduled to open on October 19.
The anchor allocation is expected to provide the first formal indication of institutional participation, offering investors a clearer picture of how much of the reported early interest translates into actual commitments before the public issue opens.
Market attention will remain focused on institutional participation, investor demand and the response to the IPO’s valuation as the offering approaches its opening date.
